The Retired Senior Volunteer Program, also known as RSVP, is a program of the Corporation for National Services. We are sponsored locally by the Senior Citizens Association.
RSVP provides opportuntities for people 55 years of age or older with meaningful volunteer work in non-profit organizations. Hospitals and nutrition sites are the largest uses of our volunteers, However, RSVP can offer a variety of opportunities which include data entry, home and institutional visits with shut-ins, newborns, clerical work, carpentry, gardening, tutoring, health promotion, and the list goes on.
RSVP provides limited insurance for volunteers to and from the work site consecutively, and also while on the job. In addition, volunteers are recognized for their service efforts through individual appreciation tokens and an annual recognition luncheon for those who serve at least 6-8 hours a month.
We currently have two hundred and fifty (250) volunteers serving in thirty (30) stations in Florence. To become a station, the organization has to have non-profit status, sign a Memorandum of Understanding with RSVP, provide meaningful work for volunteers as well as give a written job description to the RSVP. Training is provided on site whenever necessary.
The RSVP Advisory Council consists of a diverse cross-section of Florence County with 25% of the Advisory Council members representing RSVP. Members of the Advisory Council meet once per month (excluding during the summer months) with the RSVP Director to discuss progress and ways to expand the RSVP program.
