General Services
The following is a summary of services that we offer.
Information and Referral - Point of contact for senior citizens needing services.
Assessment & Services Planning - The process of determining the nature and/or problems confronted by senior citizens and developing goals to meet those needs.
Reassessment - Demographic and service plan information is updated once a year.
Crisis Management - When confronted with emergency situations by client(s), family member(s), or significant person(s) involved with a client, effective steps are taken to resolve/manage the situations.
Case Consultation - Consultation with service provider(s), professional(s), and/or any other social service agency regarding a client\'s status or progress.
Group Dining and Activities - Senior citizens are provided a hot, nutritionally balanced meals and are involved in planned group activities at sites throughout the county. The program enhances health and welfare of participants, and affords opportunities for social interaction.
Home Delivered Meals (Meals on Wheels) - Nutritionally balanced meals delivered to homebound senior citizens.
Homemaking Services - Light housekeeping, shopping, laundry, and other household tasks are provided for senior citizens who are unable to carry out these activities for themselves.
Respite Services - Relief for primary caregivers to give caregivers time away to tend to business and enjoy short periods of rest and relaxation.
Telephone Reassurance - Daily telephone contacts with senior citizens to inquire about their well-being. Program participants are comforted as they interact with callers and report any problems they may have.
Physical Fitness – Light aerobics in group sessions, held at group dining sites, to maintain health and keep participants physically active.
Legal Services and Assistance – Advice and assistance in securing legal services and obtaining access to the judicial system.
Family Caregiver Program – Provides information, counseling, support, referral services and resource materials to family caregivers of persons age 60 years or older, or caring for adult children with functional disabilities. The program also assists a 60 year old or older primary caregiver of a child 18 years or younger.
Money Management – A program for senior citizens 60 years and older who are unable to manage their own finances responsibly. The purpose of the program is to prevent older adults from being exploited by family members, friends or others.
Medication Assistance Program - An agency-managed, income-based program where selected community physicians make referrals to the program. Qualified senior citizens must be 60 years of age or older, resident of Florence County and need medication for chronic illnesses. Manufacturers, without charge or with limited fee, provide the medication.
Evidence Based Programs - Senior Citizens Association in Florence County has partnered with the Lieutenant Governor's Office on Aging in offering two new evidence programs throughout Florence, Marion, and Dillon counties. These programs are being at churches, senior centers, retirement communities, and medical clinics throughout the community.
Living Well South Carolina - Chronic Disease Self Management Program- Sick and tired of being sick and tired? Take control of enrolling in the Living Well Workshop. This workshop is for people over the age of 60 with ongoing health conditions such as diabetes, asthma, emphysema, heart conditions, arthritis and other condiditons. Small group classes are held once a week for two-and-half hour over a six-week period. Each class member is provided a textbook and CD. The class is currently offered at no cost, but a donation toward the cost of materials is requested. If you want to take charge of your own health and get more out of life then join one of the groups!
Matter of Balance- Managing Concerns About Falls
Have you turned down a chance to go out with family or friends because you were concerned about falling? Have you cut down on a favorite activity because you might fall? If so, this program is for you.
Fear of falling can be just as dangerous as falling itself. People who develop this fear often limit their activities, which can result in severe physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. A Matter of Balance is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among senior adults. Participants learn to set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors. and learn simple exercises to increase strength and balance.
This program includes eight small group sessions lasting two hours each. The class is currently offered at no cost, but a donation toward the cost of material is appreciated.
Retired Senior Volunteer Program(RSVP)- Volunteer activities for senior citizens 55 years and older, giving them opportunity to utilize their time and talents to be of service to the community in a meaningful way.
Senior Center- a facility where older adults come together for services, programs and activities. A focal point in the community where older adults can come together for recreational and social activities that reflect their experience and skills. It is a place where older adults are welcome to come and participate in a variety of activities and planned programs. The center has become a central place where an array of services are delivered in a senior friendly environment.
